The Fife-based engineering specialist was acquired by the TDC Group in June 2020 and has recorded a strong year despite managing some very challenging operating conditions due to the global pandemic. It is now looking to double revenues over the next two years on the back of this strong performance.
With a trading history spanning more than 120 years, TDC Parsons Peebles is a world-renowned manufacturer and repairer of medium & high voltage electric motors and generators for mission critical industries.
Operating from a dedicated facility in the Port of Rosyth in Fife and having seen a major six figure capital investment, the facility incorporates one of the most comprehensive and advanced test facilities in Europe, with direct full load testing and capacity at 50 & 60Hz up to 8.0MW for motors and up to 65MVA for generators.
The retention and development of a highly skilled workforce is core to the business, with the TDC Group, including the Rosyth facility, directly employing a team of 200. The business is also a committed advocate of the Modern Apprenticeship programme, helping to nurture and develop skills in the local community. Currently there are six apprentices employed in the Rosyth facility.
TDC Parsons Peebles is recognised as the market leader in the multiple sectors in which it operates, including oil & gas, petrochemical, marine, nuclear power and renewable energy. As a Tier-One supplier to many blue-chip clients, the business has a strong forward order book with several significant contracts in the renewables sector, in line with the global energy transition.
Sean Taylor, General Manager, TDC Parsons Peebles said: “I am immensely proud of my team for their hard work and commitment over the last 12 months. We were extremely fortunate to have been acquired by the TDC Group. As a dynamic and fast growing group, they could see the potential in us, with our long history of quality and innovation coupled with our unique facility including the most advanced test centre in the UK, if not Europe.”
Sean added: “The next few years are going to be exciting for TDC Parsons Peebles. We will continue to operate and support our valued clients in our traditional markets at the same time, however, we are excited to see the opportunities that will come as a result of the global energy transition. The success of this transition will rely on a robust, capable and experienced supply chain, and I am confident that our 120 years of continual innovation will stand us in good stead for this huge developing market.”
Neil Milne, Managing Director, TDC Group, added: “Acquiring Parsons Peebles was a key strategic decision for us. Being able to add high voltage manufacturing and repair capabilities to our broad engineering portfolio enhances our already extensive offering, this increased from 5MW pre acquisition of Parsons Peebles to 50MW post acquisition. Not only does this complement our current service and product range, but clients are also benefiting from the much wider spectrum of electrical and mechanical services delivered from the combined Aberdeen and Rosyth facilities. Our massively skilled and competent personnel are unsurpassed in the industry and are helping to deliver our strategy of providing single source in-house engineering solutions to customers, for electrical and mechanical manufacturing, overhaul and installation projects, and aftercare asset maintenance. Most importantly, this has increased TDC’s competitiveness in the electromechanical rotating equipment field and allows us to add further value to services offered to customers.”
This acquisition continues a programme of long-term expansion for TDC, which has resulted in the substantial growth of the group over the last two decades. TDC Group is now a market leader, supplying a wide range of electro-mechanical services, which includes the repair, rewind and refurbishment of rotating electrical machines; electrical engineering and maintenance services with particular specialism in IECEx & ATEX certified equipment; LV, MV and HV cable jointing; and control panel manufacturing. TDC also provides condition monitoring services such as HV Partial Discharge (PD) Analysis, Motor Current Signature Analysis (MCSA), Thermographic Surveys and Primary & Secondary Current Injection Testing.
